Essential documents

You're a learner driver. Who can legally supervise you while you practise in a car?

  • Any passenger who is aged 18 or over
  • Anyone who holds a full driving licence
  • A person aged 21 or over who has held a full licence for at least three years
    Correct
  • A person who passed their test at least one year ago

Why?

As a learner on a provisional licence you must be supervised by someone who is at least 21 years old and has held a full licence for that type of car for at least three years. You must also display red L plates (or D plates in Wales) on the front and back of the car. These provisional licence conditions are part of the document rules in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
