Essential documents

You want to drive in some countries outside the EU. What extra document might you need alongside your licence?

  • A second MOT certificate
  • A UK provisional licence
  • An International Driving Permit (IDP)
    Correct
  • A brand-new V5C for that country

Why?

Some countries require an International Driving Permit (IDP) as well as your GB driving licence. You can get an IDP from the Post Office before you travel. Holding the correct documents to drive is part of the rules in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
