Incidents, accidents and emergencies
You are the last car in a queue of stationary traffic on a motorway. How can you warn drivers coming up fast behind you?
- Sound your horn continuously
- Get out and wave at the traffic
- Briefly switch on your hazard warning lightsCorrect
- Reverse slowly towards them
Why?
Rule 116 of The Highway Code allows you to use hazard warning lights while moving or stopped on a motorway or unrestricted dual carriageway to warn drivers behind of a hazard or queue ahead. Use them only long enough for your warning to be seen.
