Motorway rules
You are getting ready to leave a motorway at the next exit. What should you do?
- Brake hard on the motorway to slow down before the exit
- Signal left in good time and move into the left-hand lane before the slip roadCorrect
- Wait until you reach the exit, then cross all the lanes quickly
- Slow to 30 mph in the right-hand lane
Why?
You need to plan your exit early. Rule 273 of The Highway Code says you should signal left in good time, get into the left-hand lane well before your exit, and reduce your speed on the slip road, not on the motorway itself.
