Other types of vehicle

On a dual carriageway you see a mobility scooter travelling slowly with a flashing amber beacon. Why the beacon?

  • It shows the scooter is an emergency vehicle
  • It means the scooter can travel at normal traffic speed
  • It is a slow vehicle (max 8 mph) that must warn faster traffic on a dual carriageway
    Correct
  • It tells you the battery is running low

Why?

Rule 220 of The Highway Code notes that powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters have a top speed of 8 mph, and on a dual carriageway they MUST use a flashing amber beacon so faster traffic can see them in good time. Slow down and give it plenty of room.
