Road and traffic signs
There are double white lines along the middle of the road and the line nearest you is solid. What does this mean?
- You may cross to overtake if the road is clear
- You must not cross or straddle it, apart from a few exceptionsCorrect
- You may park along this side of the road
- The road ahead is one-way
Why?
When the white line nearest to you is solid, rule 129 of The Highway Code says you must not cross or straddle it, except to turn into a side road or premises, or to pass a stationary vehicle or a cyclist, horse or road-maintenance vehicle travelling at 10 mph or less.
