You see double red lines painted along the edge of a road. What do they mean?

Waiting is allowed for one hour
Loading is permitted at any time
No stopping at any time (a red route)
Correct
Parking is free at weekends

Why?

Double red lines mark a red route, where Rule 240 of The Highway Code says you must not stop or park at any time, unless signs show otherwise. This keeps busy main roads flowing freely.
