Rules of the road

You are driving along a road with speed humps and narrow points (traffic calming). How should you drive?

  • Speed up between each hump
  • Overtake cyclists quickly at the humps
  • Keep a low, steady speed along the whole stretch
    Correct
  • Only slow down for the first hump

Why?

Rule 153 of The Highway Code says to reduce your speed at traffic calming features and keep a low speed along the whole stretch of road. Give cyclists and motorcyclists room to pass through the narrowings.
