Rules of the road

You are approaching a roundabout. Which traffic should you normally give way to?

  • Traffic coming from your left
  • Traffic already on the roundabout, coming from your right
    Correct
  • Any traffic behind you
  • Traffic waiting to enter from the road opposite

Why?

Traffic on a roundabout in the UK flows clockwise, so vehicles already on it approach you from the right. Rule 185 of The Highway Code says you should give way to traffic on your right, unless road markings or signs tell you otherwise, and only enter when there is a safe gap.
