At a pelican crossing the amber light is flashing and people are still on the crossing. What must you do?

  • Drive on because amber means go
  • Rev your engine to hurry them along
  • Move slowly through the gap between them
  • Give way to the pedestrians on the crossing

Why?

Rule 196 of The Highway Code says that when the amber light flashes at a pelican crossing you must give way to any pedestrians still on the crossing. Only move off once the crossing is clear.
