While driving, the battery or charging warning light comes on and stays lit. What might this mean?
- The car is running perfectly and it can be ignored
- The headlights have been left on too bright
- The charging system has a fault, such as a broken drive beltCorrect
- The tyres simply need more air
Why?
This light means the battery is no longer being charged, often because the alternator drive belt has broken or is slipping. Annex 6 of The Highway Code says you should understand your warning lights, so do not ignore it; have the charging system checked before the battery goes flat.
