Safety margins
In strong side winds, a motorcyclist ahead is overtaking a high-sided lorry. What should you do?
- Overtake them both quickly
- Move up close behind the motorcyclist
- Sound your horn to warn them
- Keep well back, as they may be blown off courseCorrect
Why?
Rule 232 of The Highway Code says strong side winds can blow a motorcyclist off course, especially when passing a high-sided vehicle. Keep well back and give them plenty of room in case they are pushed sideways.
