Safety margins

You have just driven through deep water at a ford. What should you do next?

  • Brake hard once to dry the brakes
  • Carry on as normal, brakes are unaffected
  • Test your brakes gently, as they may be less effective
    Correct
  • Turn off the engine to reset the brakes

Why?

Rule 121 of The Highway Code says after driving through deep water your brakes may be less effective. Test them gently at the first safe chance, and dry them by applying light pressure while driving slowly.
