Vehicle handling

It has snowed overnight. What must you do before you drive away?

  • Clear a small hole in the windscreen and set off
  • Clear snow and ice from all your windows, lights and number plates
    Correct
  • Wait for the sun to melt the snow while driving
  • Only clear the driver's side window

Why?

Rule 229 of The Highway Code says that before you set off you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from every window, make sure lights and number plates are clean and visible, demist the windows and check the mirrors are clear.
