Vehicle handling

Rule 237 gives advice for driving in very hot weather. Which of these does it recommend?

  • Keep the windows fully shut to stay cool
  • Drive faster so the journey is shorter
  • Keep the car well ventilated to avoid drowsiness
    Correct
  • Switch off your lights to save the battery

Why?

Rule 237 of The Highway Code says that in hot weather you should keep your vehicle well ventilated to avoid drowsiness, and if you are dazzled by bright sunlight slow down and, if necessary, stop. Tiredness and glare both reduce your control.
