After a very cold night the road looks wet but clear. Why should you still drive with great care?
- Wet roads always have more grip than dry roads
- Your headlights will not work in the cold
- The speed limit is lower after a cold night
- There may be black ice, especially in shaded spots, so grip can suddenly be lostCorrect
Why?
Rule 231 of The Highway Code says to drive with great care in icy weather even when the road looks clear, because patches of ice ('black ice') can form in shaded or sheltered places. Keep your speed down and brake and steer very gently.
