In strong wind you drive out from behind a line of trees onto an open, exposed stretch of road. What should you be ready for?
- The wind will have dropped once you are in the open
- Your brakes will suddenly grip harder
- A sudden gust that could push your car sideways, so hold the wheel firmlyCorrect
- That you must switch off your headlights in the open
Why?
Rule 232 of The Highway Code says strong winds are worst on open, exposed stretches, and you can be caught by a sudden gust as you come out from the shelter of trees, buildings or a cutting. Keep a firm grip on the wheel and be ready to correct your position.
