Vehicle loading

Putting too much heavy luggage at the very back of a caravan can make it do what?

  • Brake much more smoothly
  • Grip the road better
  • Sway or snake from side to side
    Correct
  • Use noticeably less fuel

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code says to keep heavy items over the axle. Weight loaded too far back makes a trailer or caravan unstable and much more likely to sway or snake at speed, which can lead to loss of control.
