Vehicle loading

How should you load heavy goods into a van?

  • Low down and spread evenly
    Correct
  • Stacked high near the roof
  • All piled against the back doors
  • Loose so it can shift about

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code says to distribute the weight evenly and secure the load. Loading heavy goods low and evenly keeps the van stable; a high or uneven load raises the centre of gravity and makes the van harder to control.
