Vehicle loading
Bicycles on a rear-mounted rack hide your number plate and rear lights. What must you do?
- Drive only in daylight to avoid the problem
- Remove the bulbs so they cannot be seen
- Leave it, as bikes are exempt from these rules
- Fit a lighting board showing the plate and lightsCorrect
Why?
Rule 98 of The Highway Code says your load must not make the vehicle unroadworthy or hide your lights and number plate. If a bike rack covers them, you must fit a lighting board that repeats the number plate and rear lights so others can see your signals.
