You're a passenger in a back seat where a seat belt is fitted. Must you wear it?

  • No, only front seats need belts
  • Only when on a motorway
  • Only if the driver asks you to
  • Yes, you must wear a belt if one is fitted
    Correct

Why?

Rule 99 of The Highway Code says you must wear a seat belt in cars, vans and other goods vehicles if one is fitted, in the rear as well as the front, unless you are exempt. A belt only protects you if you actually wear it.
