Vulnerable road users
At an equestrian crossing the push-button panel is mounted higher than on a pedestrian crossing. Why is this?
- To keep it out of reach of children
- To protect it from rain and mud
- So a horse rider can press it while still mountedCorrect
- So it is easier for lorry drivers to see
Why?
Equestrian crossings are made for horse riders. Rule 199 of The Highway Code explains that these crossings have a higher control panel so a rider can operate the crossing without getting down from the horse.
