Vulnerable road users

A pedestrian has already stepped onto a zebra crossing in front of you. What must you do?

  • Stop and give way until they have crossed
    Correct
  • Drive slowly around behind them
  • Continue if you can pass without touching them
  • Sound your horn to warn them you are coming

Why?

Once a pedestrian has moved onto a zebra crossing, you are legally required to let them cross. Rule 195 of The Highway Code says you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto the crossing.
