Vulnerable road users

A powered mobility scooter is travelling slowly on the road ahead of you. What should you do?

  • Be patient and give the user plenty of room when passing
    Correct
  • Drive close behind to make them move onto the pavement
  • Sound your horn until they pull over
  • Overtake at once, however narrow the road

Why?

Mobility scooters travel slowly and their users are vulnerable. Rule 220 of The Highway Code reminds drivers that these vehicles are hard to see and slow-moving, so be careful, patient and allow extra room.
