Vulnerable road users

Why is parking with two wheels up on the pavement a problem for some pedestrians?

  • It damages your tyres over time
  • It is only a problem for other drivers
  • It makes your vehicle harder to lock
  • It can force wheelchair users, blind people and prams out into the road
    Correct

Why?

Blocking part of the pavement pushes vulnerable pedestrians into the traffic. Rule 244 of The Highway Code says you should not park on the pavement as it can seriously inconvenience wheelchair users, people with prams and those who are visually impaired.
