Vulnerable road users

It is very windy and you are about to pass a cyclist. Why should you give even more room than usual?

  • A gust of wind could blow the cyclist off course towards you
    Correct
  • Wind makes cyclists ride much faster
  • Cyclists cannot ride at all in strong wind
  • The wind will push your car away from them

Why?

Strong gusts can blow a cyclist sideways without warning. Rule 232 of The Highway Code warns that in windy weather a cyclist, motorcyclist or horse rider can be blown off course, so take care and leave extra space.
