Vulnerable road users
Before you reverse your car, why should you check carefully all around, especially close behind?
- Reversing uses more fuel than driving forward
- Small children may be behind the car where you cannot see themCorrect
- The law says you must always sound your horn first
- Your mirrors show everything behind the car
Why?
Young children are low down and easily hidden by the back of a vehicle. Rule 202 of The Highway Code says to check all around before and while reversing, and to get out and look if you are not sure, as children may be there unseen.
