Vulnerable road users
A cyclist has got off their bike and is pushing it across a zebra crossing. How should you treat them?
- As a vehicle that must give way to you
- As a pedestrian, so give way to themCorrect
- As a cyclist who must wait for a green light
- Drive on, because they are not riding
Why?
Someone pushing a bike on foot counts as a pedestrian. Rule 195 of The Highway Code says you must give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing, so give way just as you would to anyone else on foot.
