لماذا؟
تنص القاعدة 160 من قانون الطريق على أنه ما إن تتحرّك ينبغي أن تقود بالترس المناسب للظروف. على صعود شديد يُبقي الترس الأدنى (lower gear) المحرك ساحبًا ويمنحك قوة وسيطرة ثابتتين، بدل أن تدع السيارة تجهد بترس عالٍ أكثر من اللازم.
Rule 160 of The Highway Code says that once moving you should drive in the correct gear for the conditions. On a steep uphill a lower gear keeps the engine pulling and gives steady power and control, rather than letting the car labour in too high a gear.
