Alertness

When should you use your mirrors as part of the Mirror-Signal-Manoeuvre routine?

  • After you have signalled
  • In good time before you signal or change speed or direction
    Correct
  • Only at the exact moment you turn
  • After you have already started the manoeuvre

Why?

Checking mirrors early gives you time to react safely to whatever is around you before you act. Rule 161 of The Highway Code says you should use your mirrors in good time before you signal or change direction or speed, which is the basis of the Mirror-Signal-Manoeuvre (MSM) routine.
