You are driving at night and are dazzled by the headlights of an oncoming vehicle. What should you do?
- Look towards the left kerb and keep your speed up
- Slow down, and stop if necessaryCorrect
- Flash your main beam back at the other driver
- Close your eyes briefly until the vehicle passes
Why?
If you are dazzled you cannot judge the road ahead, so you must reduce speed until you can see clearly again. Rule 115 of The Highway Code says that if you are dazzled by oncoming headlights, you should slow down and, if necessary, stop.
