Why should you not overtake as you approach the brow of a hill or a hump bridge?
- You may damage your vehicle on the slope
- You cannot see far enough ahead to be sure it is safeCorrect
- Overtaking uphill uses too much fuel
- Other drivers cannot hear your engine
Why?
The road beyond the crest is hidden, so an oncoming vehicle could appear with no time to react. Rule 166 of The Highway Code says you must not overtake where you cannot see far enough ahead to be sure it is safe, such as approaching the brow of a hill or a hump bridge.
