On a long drive, how often is it recommended that you take a break?

  • A break of at least 15 minutes after every 2 hours of driving
    Correct
  • A short break every 30 minutes
  • One break only, halfway through the journey
  • A break whenever you reach a service station

Why?

Regular breaks stop tiredness building up to a dangerous level before you notice it. Rule 91 of The Highway Code recommends a minimum break of at least 15 minutes after every two hours of driving to help you stay alert.
