Alertness

Which times of day are the worst to start a long journey because your natural alertness is lowest?

  • During the morning rush hour
  • Between midnight and 6 am
    Correct
  • In the late afternoon
  • Just after lunch

Why?

Your body clock makes you naturally sleepiest in the early hours, so tiredness builds fastest then. Rule 91 of The Highway Code advises avoiding long journeys between midnight and 6 am, when natural alertness is at a minimum.
