Alertness

You need to reverse but cannot see clearly behind your vehicle. What is the safest thing to do?

  • Reverse very slowly and hope the way is clear
  • Get someone to guide you
    Correct
  • Rely only on your mirrors
  • Reverse in short bursts, checking between each one

Why?

If your view is blocked you cannot be sure a child or cyclist is not behind you, and reversing blindly is dangerous. Rule 202 of The Highway Code says that if you cannot see clearly when reversing, you should get someone to guide you.
