Alertness

You are driving your car out of a private driveway and must cross the pavement. Who has priority?

  • You do, because a vehicle is bigger
  • Whoever moves first
  • Traffic on the main road only
  • Pedestrians on the pavement
    Correct

Why?

When you cross a pavement to leave a driveway you are entering space that belongs to people on foot. Rule 206 of The Highway Code says you must give way to pedestrians on the pavement when crossing it to reach or leave a driveway or private access.
