Essential documents

You need glasses to read a number plate at the required distance. When must you wear them?

  • Only for long journeys
  • Only at night or in poor weather
  • Every time you drive
    Correct
  • Only when a police officer is nearby

Why?

If you need glasses or contact lenses to meet the number plate eyesight standard, Rule 92 of The Highway Code says you must wear them every time you drive. Driving without them when you need them means you do not meet the legal eyesight standard.
