What does the registered keeper shown on the V5C certificate mean?

  • The person who built the vehicle
  • The person responsible for taxing and registering the vehicle
    Correct
  • The garage that last serviced the vehicle
  • The insurance company that covers the vehicle

Why?

The V5C shows the registered keeper, the person responsible for taxing and registering the vehicle and dealing with the DVLA about it. The keeper is not always the legal owner. Keeping the V5C details correct is part of the document rules in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
