Hazard awareness

On a narrow country road, why should you slow down as you approach bends?

  • Bends always have traffic lights
  • It is a legal requirement to stop at every bend
  • Your headlights work better slowly
  • The bend may be sharper than it looks, with hidden hazards beyond
    Correct

Why?

Rule 154 of The Highway Code says take extra care on country roads and reduce speed at bends, which can be sharper than they appear, and where junctions, walkers or animals may be hidden just out of sight.
