Hazard awareness
A ball suddenly rolls into the road ahead of you from between parked cars. What should you do?
- Drive on, as a ball cannot damage your car
- Sound your horn and keep your speed
- Steer around it without slowing down
- Slow down and be ready to stop, as a child may run out after itCorrect
Why?
Rule 206 of The Highway Code warns that children may run into the road, for example chasing a ball, without looking for traffic. A ball is an early warning that a child may follow, so slow down and be ready to stop.
