Incidents, accidents and emergencies
At night an oncoming vehicle's headlights dazzle you and you cannot see the road clearly. What should you do?
- Slow down and, if necessary, stop until you can see againCorrect
- Flash your own full beam back at them
- Speed up to get past the bright lights
- Close your eyes for a moment until they pass
Why?
Rule 115 of The Highway Code says that if you are dazzled by oncoming headlights you should slow down and, if necessary, stop. Looking towards the left kerb can also help. Never speed up or flash back, as that leaves you both unable to see the road.
