A red 'X' is shown on the overhead sign above your lane on a motorway. What must you do?
- Stay in the lane but slow right down
- Stop in the lane and wait for the sign to change
- Move safely out of that lane, because it is closedCorrect
- Speed up to pass the closed section quickly
Why?
Rule 258 of The Highway Code says a red 'X' means the lane is closed because there may be people, stopped vehicles or other hazards ahead. You must move out of the lane in good time, and you must not drive in a lane closed by a red 'X'.
