What is the national speed limit for a car on a motorway?

Why?

The national speed limit for cars and motorcycles on a motorway is 70 mph, part of the speed limits covered by rule 124 of The Highway Code. Rule 261 adds that you must never exceed the limit, and that a lower limit shown on the signs or gantry always applies instead.
