Motorway rules
Which of these is not allowed on a motorway?
- Driving in the left-hand lane at the speed limit
- Overtaking a slower vehicle on the right
- Stopping to pick up or set down a passengerCorrect
- Leaving at a signed exit
Why?
Motorways are only for through traffic moving at speed. Rule 272 of The Highway Code says you must not pick up or set down anyone, or walk on a motorway, except in an emergency. Pedestrians are banned under rule 253, so there is nowhere safe to stop for them.
