Motorway rules

You switch on cruise control on a clear, dry motorway. What must you remember?

  • You are still fully in control and must keep concentrating
    Correct
  • You can safely take your attention off the road
  • You no longer need to check your mirrors
  • It works just as well in fog and heavy rain

Why?

Assistance systems help, but they do not drive for you. Rule 150 of The Highway Code says you should not rely on driver assistance systems such as cruise control, and must not let them reduce your concentration. You remain responsible for the vehicle and must keep full control.
