You are driving on a motorway in thick fog and visibility drops below 100 metres. What should you do with your lights?

Switch on your fog lights, and turn them off again when visibility improves
Correct
Use full-beam headlights so others can see you
Use only your sidelights to avoid dazzle
Switch on your hazard lights and leave them on

Why?

Fog lights help you be seen when you can barely see. Rules 226 and 236 of The Highway Code say you may use front and rear fog lights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally below 100 metres, but you MUST switch them off when it improves so they do not dazzle others or hide your brake lights.
