The signals on a motorway show red flashing lights above your lane. What must you do?
- Slow down but continue in the lane
- Speed up to clear the area quickly
- You must not go beyond the signal in that laneCorrect
- Sound your horn and keep going
Why?
Red flashing lights close a lane completely. Rule 258 of The Highway Code says red flashing lights and a red 'X' show a lane is closed because of people, a stopped vehicle or another hazard; you MUST NOT drive on beyond the signal in that lane, so move into an open lane in good time.
