You have had to stop on the hard shoulder in an emergency. What should you switch on straight away?
- Your full-beam headlights
- Your front fog lights only
- Your right-hand indicator
- Your hazard warning lightsCorrect
Why?
Stationary vehicles on the hard shoulder are hard to see at speed. Rule 275 of The Highway Code says that if you break down you should pull onto the hard shoulder and switch on your hazard warning lights at once so others can see you are stopped, then leave by the left-hand door and wait behind the barrier.
