On a motorway with three lanes, which lane should you normally drive in?
- The left-hand lane, keeping to it unless you are overtakingCorrect
- The middle lane, so you can overtake on either side
- The right-hand lane, which is for faster cars
- Whichever lane has the least traffic
Why?
The left-hand lane is the normal driving lane. Rule 264 of The Highway Code says you should keep in the left lane unless you are overtaking; the middle and right lanes are for overtaking, not for cruising. Move back to the left once you have safely passed.
