Other types of vehicle

At a roundabout, an articulated lorry stays in the left-hand lane but signals right. Why might it do this?

  • It is lost and has chosen the wrong lane
  • It is telling you to overtake on its right
  • It needs the extra room because of its length, so give it space
    Correct
  • Long vehicles are banned from the right-hand lane

Why?

Rule 187 of The Highway Code says long vehicles may take a different course or straddle lanes at roundabouts because of their length, and may stay left while signalling to continue round. Watch their signals, not just their road position, and give them room.
